THE DEATH OF A VAMPIRE

What would you do if you woke up one morning with bite marks on your neck and learned you had been chosen as his bride by the cold-blooded prince of a local vampire clan?

That’s what happened to Elena. And the surprises were not over yet – on the brink of turning into a vampire, she also learns she is a Creature with exceptional skills the vampire prince wishes to own through sucking the knowledge from her blood.

She has two options for not turning into a vampire: 1) to drink a foul-tasting medicine only one person knows how to make for the rest of her life while running from Aaron, the vampire prince who will hunt her without mercy, or 2) find the mythical Creator Aaron wants to become by using the skills in Elena’s blood before he does. The Creator, that mystical Creature who can mold reality by writing – and maybe write Elena back to her old self.

Together with a group of other Creatures, she escapes through secret goblin stone spirals and resolves to try and find the Creator first. A handsome demon, a very polite goblin, a pragmatic walker and a soulful vampire who only wishes to die, help her in her search.

Will they find the Creator before Aaron catches them – or finds the Creator and starts writing the reality into what he wants it to be?

The Death of a Vampire is the first book of the Creature Wars -series.

If you love vampire stories, fast pace adventure and mythical creatures, buy this book. (It is scheduled to come out on 28th August 2019 on Amazon)

Vampires, goblins and demons are just some of the creatures you will meet in this riveting new book by Leena Pekkalainen. Viscerally thrilling, Leena’s latest offering opens with a young female author being bitten by a vampire prince. All families have secrets and, while the lady struggles not to turn into a vampire, she is aided by her Nana (whose skills involve teleportation) and goblin friends, many of whom are excellent chefs.

In the nineteenth century vampires became associated with romance, which has carried down to today. Many readers and screen audiences are familiar with Interview with a Vampire and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Not all, however, are familiar with John Polidori’s novel The Vampyre which hit the presses in 1819. The book introduced the notion of an elegant and sophisticated predator. Once this protagonist was introduced vampire literature took off. It became the norm and expectation of readers and film audiences. You won’t be disappointed in Death of a Vampire which offers not one, but two romantic leads (possibly three if you count the evil, but handsome Prince Aaron).

Following the adventures of goblins and vampires through Europe by magical transportation I was reminded of a world which can only be likened to that conjured by the imagination of JRR Tolkien. It does not come as a surprise to learn that the Finnish author was reared on fairy stories of trolls, goblins and demons in her homeland.

Ms Pekkalainen’s absorbing book is as enjoyable as it is hard to put down.

While I love to read fantasy, I am usually not a big fan of vampire stories. Years ago I read the first book of the Twilight series and didn't like it at all. It was so poorly written. Whereas Leena's book drew me in right from the start, and I could hardly put it down.

The concept that vampires choose their victims more for the skills and knowledge they can gain from them than purely for the blood is brilliant! Knowing Leena's background in Egyptology I also enjoyed how she's woven that passion of hers into the story.

But what I like most is that Elena, the main protagonist, makes it so believable that her story could happen to any of us! Just think... you wake up one day, think you have some annoying mosquito bites and next thing you know a handsome demon steps into your life. :-)

I can't wait to read the sequel.

This first in a series, is delicious! It's Clean! Entertaining and as with all Leena's characters are easy to love.
This first installment is a breath of fresh air compared with the other vampire characters in current youth reading.
