monthly blog post of the Insecure Writer's Support Group. |
This month’s question: Is there someone who supported or influenced me that perhaps isn’t around anymore? Anyone I miss? |
It isn’t actually a person but an object. Namely an old typewriter.
I had been writing my stories by hand ever since I could write (and even before that as cartoons).
I’m not sure was it my father or my mother who mentioned my writing to my uncle, but out of the blue he offered to loan me his old-fashioned massive black typewriter. You know the kind that uses an ink ribbon – which I used again and again until there was no ink left. It had keys that make a loud noise when you type. Not to mention the fact you need to use some force to make the typebars hit the paper. And if you wrote fast, the typebars got stuck, tangled with each other.
I wrote many a story with that typewriter, but then one day my uncle said he needed it back. Probably as it was quite an expensive thing…
I still miss that typewriter, even to an extent I almost bought a typewriter-lookalike keyboard to my computer LOL.
