thought for the day

sleeping peacefully in a storm

(I tried to find the original writer of this story, but could not. Should anyone point me to the right direction, I will give credit to whom it is due. Also this is my own translation of the Finnish version of the story.)

Many years ago a young man came to ask for a job in a farm. The owner of the farm asked for his qualifications.

"I sleep peacefully even in a storm," the young man answered.

The farmer was puzzled by this reply, but the young man made a favourable impression and he decided to hire him.

After a few weeks, in the middle of the night, a great storm hit the farm. The farmer and his wife checked that everything was ok in the house. When they did this, they saw that all the shutters were closed and there was plenty of firewood piled next to the fireplace. They peeked into the young man's room and sure enough, he was peacefully asleep.

The farmer braved the weather and went outside. He saw all his tools had been carried inside the shed. His tractor was in the garage, the barn doors were carefully closed and animals inside were peaceful and safe. All was well.

Now the farmer understood the youth's mysterious comment when they first met. When he did his job carefully in fine weather, he was already prepared for the storm. And so, when the winds and rain came, he could sleep peacefully.

This angel stands on my mother's nightstand. I love her beautiful flowing dress and those pretty, almost fairy-like wings.

DAILY FUNNY

Fleas

At the vet:

"Do you have anything to help dog fleas?"

"Depends what's wrong with them."

Do you have a funny story you would like to see published in this letter? An event, what someone said? If so, send me your funny story in an email

(I especially love the funny things children say!).

Old Ford

We went walking yesterday with my husband and there was some kind of gathering of old cars. This little 1930 Ford looked almost cute enough to eat...

Daily quote

“Make a pact with yourself today to not be defined by your past. Sometimes the greatest thing to come out of all your hard work isn't what you get for it, but what you become for it.”

QUOTE FROM THE SEVEN SHABTIS 1 / THE HOUSE OF THE MORNING SUN

"Oh, OK. How did that stone come to be in this village?" Luke asked. "Who brought it here?”

"She did," Mr. Altherr said, looking at the stone.

"She? Who?"

"She. The daughter of Akhenaten."

"What? As in she herself? How could she have come this far from Egypt? Thousands of years ago? In person?" Luke looked at Mr. Altherr with a surprised look.

"Have you ever heard of the legend of Scota?"

"Erm… no…" Kaylee looked at Luke. "Have you?"

"No. Who was Scota?"

"She was a queen," again Mr. Altherr pointed at the stone, "There is an old story how the daughter of an Egyptian pharaoh escaped unrest in the land and travelled to Scotland or Ireland or both. There is even a tomb in Ireland that could be hers. Some stories say that she and her descendants stayed in the Iberian Peninsula for a while but eventually part of their group sailed to Ireland. According to the legend, they brought with them a sacred stone that eventually made its way to Scotland, and then to England. And the kings of Scotland were crowned on that stone. When England conquered Scotland, the stone was taken to England and even today the monarchs are crowned on St. Edward's Chair with a slot underneath to hold that stone."

"I have heard of the stone," Luke said. "The Stone of Scone. I never knew it had anything to do with ancient Egypt!"

- Leena Maria / The Seven Shabtis 1 / The House of the Morning Sun / Chapter 4: The Legend of Scota

I sell my books directly too - the ebooks are cheap to buy and the big e-stores don't share much to the author. So I have downloaded my ebooks to Payhip - they don't take commission and I get more to pay for my editor, proofreader and cover designer. All of whom are one-woman businesses themselves. (You get the ebook in your preferred e-reader format.)

If you prefer to write a short happy note each day, I have created planners for this effect. You can write your daily happiness in the squares of the weekly spread - and plan future happiness using the monthly pages. There are even happy (repositionable) stickers included in the planner.
